Some people seek psychotherapy because they feel emotionally disturbed such as feeling depressed, anxious or angry which affect their daily functioning or relationships with others. Some want help navigating through new changes, transition, crisis or even before they make some crucial decisions in their lives. Some need helps for a chronic illness or grieving the death of their loved ones which interfering with their emotional or physical well being.
Psychotherapy aims at treating mental health, emotional and behavioral distress, and some psychiatric disorders through verbal or nonverbal communication rather than using chemical measures or drugs. It is a collaborative work between a therapist or psychologist and an individual client. It provides a supportive and accepting environment for the client to process their thoughts, feelings, insights, behaviors and plans. The goal is to solve or resolve the problems client has brought in and also learn or relearn new skills for the clients so they can cope better with whatever challenges arise in the future.
